Marysville, WA police shooting under investigation

Officers in Marysville shot and killed a suspect after a traffic stop at a shopping center near Costco on Tuesday night.

The shooting happened at about 8 p.m. off Twin Lakes Avenue near Smokey Point.

According to investigators, there was an altercation and the suspect's car dragged an officer who had pulled the suspect over.

The suspect drove away and crashed their car into the Costco, which caught on fire. It's not known if the crash caused the fire.

Investigators said the suspect died at the scene, and their identity and cause of death have not been released.

The officer who was dragged was hurt. She was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for minor injuries and later released.

Investigators said a Marysville officer fired shots, but it's unclear if it was a different officer from the one who was dragged.

Businesses in the area were on lockdown during the incident, and the shooting scene remained closed overnight.

The Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team (SMART) will be taking over the investigation.

The Marysville Costco is located at 16616 Twin Lakes Avenue, in the Lakewood Crossing.
