A woman and dog were found dead by Marysville firefighters Sunday morning after a house caught on fire, according to the Marysville Fire District.

What we know:

Officials said they responded to a call just after 9:15 a.m. near the 5900 block of 88th St.

The caller said his wife was unresponsive in a bedroom and told the agency that there was heavy smoke and fire damage in the room.

After arriving at the scene, fire crews said they found the woman and a dog dead inside the home.

The man who called was treated for smoke inhalation.

What we don't know:

The Marysville Fire District said the cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by the Snohomish County Fire Marshal.

What they're saying:

Officials used the fire as an opportunity to encourage residents to check their smoke alarms and ensure that they are working in every room and level of their home.

"Test smoke alarms regularly and replace them according to the manufacturer’s recommendations," the Marysville Fire District said. "Because smoke can spread quickly, early warning from a working smoke alarm can provide critical time to escape safely."

The agency also directed people to head to their website for information on fire prevention. That link can be found here

Marysville Fire also thanked the Snohomish County Fire District #22, Marysville police, and Snohomish County 911 for their assistance at the scene.
