Multiple people killed in North Carolina mass shooting

The Caswell County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted in the investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and State Bureau of Investigation

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to a mass shooting in the Prospect Hills area of North Carolina Wednesday.  
 

What we know:

The shooting happened just before 8 a.m. Wednesday morning on Brooks Road in Prospect Hills, according to the Caswell County Sheriff's Office.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation says deputies arrived on scene and found multiple people shot dead. One additional person was found with a gunshot wound and transported to Duke University Hospital. 

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol also responded to assist local deputies, and the Caswell County Sheriff's Office requested assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. 

At an afternoon press conference, Caswell County Sheriff Tony Durden said one person was transported to Duke University Hospital with a gunshot wound and three others were found deceased from gunshots.

Crime scene investigators are continuing to process the scene. No suspect information has been released at this time, but authorities say there is no current threat to the public. 

The investigation is ongoing.
