Mayor: Intel closing its facility in DuPont where 350 work, may shut office in Bellevue, too

SEATTLE -- DuPont Mayor Mike Courts confirmed Monday that Intel Corp. is closing its facility in DuPont and and may also shut down its office in Bellevue.

Courts said Intel now employs about 350 people in DuPont, and he does not know exactly when the office will close.

The Oregonian first reported the planned closures.

The news comes after Intel announced last week that it will cut 12,000 jobs — about 11 percent of its workforce — as it reorganizes to confront a decline in sales of personal computers. The chipmaker said the cuts will include "voluntary and involuntary departures" from its operations around the world. Most of the affected workers will be notified in the next 60 days.
