Officials continue to blaze new trails with pot regulations

SEATTLE -- After hearing from the U.S. Department of Justice on recreational marijuana, state leaders can move forward on plans to regulate the recreational marijuana industry in Washington State.

In a news conference Thursday, Governor Jay Inslee praised the feds for taking a stance on the issue and allowing Washington State to move forward.Now, the Washington Liquor Control Board can continue its process of regulating the growing, processing and sales of marijuana.

According to the liquor board, a set of new proposed rules will be announced on Sept. 4. Then, in October, the board will host at least one public hearing on these new regulations before they are adopted in November.

Finally, Dec. 1, those rules will be complete and the state will begin issuing producer, processor and retail licenses to qualified applicants.
