Percy Harvin to get second opinion on hip problem

SEATTLE -- Seahawks wide receiver Percy Harvin will seek a second opinion on his injured hip Tuesday in New York City, Fieldgulls.com reported.

Harvin was placed on the team's Physically Unable to Perform, or PUP, list after it was disclosed he has a hip injury that might require surgery because of a small labrum tear.

Harvin, who was obtained from the Minnesota Vikings his year for the Seahawks 2013 first-round draft choice and a 7th-round draft choice and a 2014 third-round draft choice, was seen as key to improving Seattle's vertical passing game this year.

"Percy’s got a hip issue that were dealing with that came up here when he was working out over the summer," coach Pete Carroll said after the team's first day of training camp. "And we’re trying to figure it out.  We are going to do everything we can to make the right decision to help him and take care of him in every way.

"He was working out just a week or so ago, you know, going full speed, but it was bothering him enough. And we took some looks at it and we’re going to try to figure out what the right procedures to take care of him and get him back out on the field," Carroll said.

Asked if it was the labrum, the coach said, "It's in that area, yeah, and we’re going to take a really good look at it, get second opinions and all that kind of stuff.  It's really early in camp and (we've) got plenty of time to get this thing worked out."

Asked if surgery might be required, Carroll said, "It may be. We’ll find out. We’re just going to do it step by step."

According to Fieldgoal.com, the Seahawks team doctor did not necessarily recommended Harvin for surgery.
