MAPLE VALLEY, Wash. -- Several children are recovering after a driver hit them with a pickup truck while they waited at a bus stop. Witnesses say it could have been much worse, if it hadn’t been for a 12-year-old who warned others.

Even at the age of 12, J.T. McClellan says he knew exactly what to do when he saw a pickup truck headed straight for him and his friends Thursday morning.

“I jump and say, 'Get out of the way, get out of the way!'" said McClellan.

He added that the look on the driver’s face is one he can’t forget.

“I see cars coming straight at us, and it looked like the guy had a seizure and his arms up,” said McClellan.

While McClellan rushed to help his friends, Eric Jhanson rushed to help the driver.

“I`m just glad it wasn`t worse, especially when there`s kids involved; there ain`t nothing, nothing scarier,” said Jhanson.

It’s not clear why the driver was on the road in the first place. The King County Sheriff’s Office say his license is suspended for medical reasons.

The driver is now in the King County Jail booked for vehicular assault and could face a judge as soon as Friday.

“It was really crazy, and when he hit the tree, his foot was on the gas and he was unconscious,” said Bogdean Myronets, who was also almost hit.

Max Pringle feels lucky he walked away with minor scrapes.

“All they told me was to take some ibuprofen and make sure it doesn`t swell up,” said Pringle

For those that left unscathed, they’re grateful, too, but they’re shaken to know what could have been.

“All I know is that I helped I guess, helped save some lives today,” said McClellan.

None of the children's injuries was life-threatening, authorities said.
