Fire crews work to contain Pierce County brush fire

Crews worked to contain the fire Friday night with air support and ground crews. No reports of any damages to nearby buildings.

EATONVILLE, Wash. - Fire crews are working to fully extinguish a brush fire spanning multiple acres in south Pierce County Friday.

Graham Fire & Rescue and South Pierce Fire & Rescue responded to the 8-acre fire off of Jensen Rd. near Eatonville around 5 p.m. Officials say around 7:30 p.m. firefighters were able to get the fire under control, but not fully contained.

Firefighters said a brush fire in Pierce County was threatening structures Friday afternoon.

Wind caused the fire to spread rapidly and threaten nearby buildings. No reports yet of any damages caused by the fire as ground crews and air support worked to put water on the fire.

"It scared me. I was out here, with my hose, watering down my fence, and stuff, and the house, just in case, if I could do any good. It scared me. I have to admit. It got really close and it was big. Then we had a helicopter dropping water on it too," said Rick Doyle whose home was close to the flames.

On Thursday, several GFR crews put out a 5-acre brush fire in Pierce County. Crews are reminding people to be cautious with any outdoor burning as warm weather will continue this week and brush and grass will remain dry in Western Washington.
