Pierce County men accused in Jan. 6 riots to go before judge
ORTING, Wash. - After pleading not guilty, an Orting father and his stepson are going before a judge in Washington D.C. on Wednesday for their alleged participation in the deadly Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
FOX 13 Seattle got ahold of the court documents for Richard Slaughter and his stepson, Caden Gottfried.
They show dozens of images of the two men among the Jan. 6 rioters, including images of Slaughter grabbing a police shield from another rioter and keeping it away from a responding law enforcement officer, according to prosecutors and the FBI.
Images also show Slaughter attacking Capitol police with a pole.
Prosecutors say images show Gottfried pushing against the police line, before he was taken into custody by Capitol police.
Those images are accompanied by a police-issued arrestee document with Gottfried’s name and Orting's address.
Both men are looking at a total of 13 charges, including assault, resisting or impeding law enforcement officers, and engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds.
The FBI was tipped off to these two after a face-masking issue on their flight back home from D.C.
When he was originally interviewed by the FBI in Feb. 2021, Slaughter — then director of the Orting school board — admitted to being at the Capitol that day but denied seeing any crimes, saying: "Conservatives don’t protest, they have jobs."
