Suspects caught after attempted catalytic converter theft, pursuit
police lights
SEATTLE - A man and a woman were arrested Wednesday night after police say they tried to steal a catalytic converter in Seattle and led police on a pursuit that ended near Auburn.
After 9 p.m., officers responded to reports of an attempted carjacking with shots fired in the 1700 block of 6th Avenue South.
According to police, a man was standing near his car when he saw a black van pull up nearby.
Investigators said a woman got out of the van with a cutting tool and got under his car. When the man confronted her, she yelled for the second person to help her.
The second suspect appeared and was armed with a gun.
Investigators said the victim pepper sprayed the armed suspect, punched him and ran. As the victim ran, the armed suspect fired at the victim but missed, and the two suspects drove away.
Officers located the suspects and tried to pull them over but they refused to stop and were driving erratically until they reached I-5.
King County’s Guardian 1 helped Washington State Patrol troopers stop the suspects near Auburn.
The suspects, a 31-year-old man and 25-year-old woman, were arrested and booked into the King County Jail.
Police said the black van was reportedly stolen.
The investigation remains ongoing.
