Police chief leading investigation in WI school shooting has ties to Seattle
SEATTLE - Another school mass shooting shocked the U.S. on Monday, but the police chief spearheading the investigation is someone FOX 13 Seattle reported on last week.
Madison, Wisconsin police chief Shon Barnes got in front of cameras to brief the community about the mass shooting at a private Christian school in Wisconsin.
Multiple sources revealed to FOX 13 Seattle that Barnes is the top contender for Seattle’s next police chief.
Barnes told reporters that his officers train for these kinds of incidents on a quarterly basis. He says as soon as they got the call, officers quickly worked to locate the active shooter inside Abundant Life Christian School. Barnes said the shooter was dead at the scene and that his officers focused on rendering aid to the multiple victims who were shot inside the school.

Madison police say three people are dead and six others were wounded after a shooting at Madison Abundant Life Christian School on Monday morning. The suspected shooter, a student, is one of the deceased. The other two deceased are a teacher and a teenage student.
As a dad himself, Barnes reacted to the shooting, calling it a ‘sad, sad day,’ not only for Madison but the entire country.
"To be honest with you, I’m feeling a little dismayed now, so close to Christmas, every child, every person in that building is a victim and will be a victim forever. This kind of trauma doesn’t go away, right now we have to figure out what happened here," Barnes said.

On Friday, FOX 13 reported that Barnes had already gone through the final vetting process for the job of Seattle Police Chief. A spokesperson for Mayor Harrell’s office would not confirm the information on Barnes. As of last week, they said Harrell had not made any final hiring decisions. The city says they expect to make an announcement later this month.
