Police investigate gunfire on I-5 aimed at cops, search for shooters

TUKWILA — The ramp to State Route 518 and Southcenter Boulevard from southbound Interstate 5 was closed Thursday morning as law enforcement agencies investigated a shooting aimed at police.

The Washington State Patrol tweeted that the ramps were closed Thursday morning.



Around 6:30 a.m., police served a search warrant to a home in the 14900 block of 51st Avenue South in Tukwila, officers said. Police were looking for Kevin M. Vaughn, who is wanted for auto theft.

While police served the warrant, officers said, two suspects traveling south on I-5 near the home slowed down and fired at least seven shots at the officers. No officers were hit.

Following the shooting, the suspects fled south on I-5. They are currently being sought after.

Vaughn is still wanted for the auto theft, and is now a subject of interest in the Thursday morning shooting, police said. He is described as a 26-year-old man, 6'1" tall, with brown hair and blue eyes. He has a "Hatred" tattoo across his forehead, and is allegedly a known gang member associated with the Resurrection motorcycle gang.

Vaughn has been charged with 12 felonies, including theft of a motor vehicle, burglary, attempt to elude and assault.
