'Stay vigilant': Police report robbery, assaults in Bellevue, WA
BELLEVUE, Wash. - A 72-year-old woman was hospitalized when a man robbed her in a Bellevue parking lot. Police believe there may be a connection to another robbery targeting youths in the Bellevue Square area.
The male suspect approached the elderly woman on her way to her car from the store in the area of Main Street and 108th Avenue Northeast. This is when he demanded, then grabbed and struggled for, her purse, according to police in Bellevue. They continued, saying the man got the purse and pushed the woman to the ground before fleeing.
In a Saturday statement from BPD, officers warned the public to be vigilant as their investigation continues into possible connections with a crime targeting minors in Bellevue Square.
"Today, the Bellevue Police Department is asking community members to stay vigilant following a robbery incident that left the victim with injuries…Bellevue Police believe the suspects and vehicle are similar in description to another assault incident from earlier that day."
The earlier incident was reported at around 1:30 p.m. on the 400 block of Bellevue Square. There, police say a man threatened several juveniles with a gun.
"It’s not great to hear about those stories," and "notice everything, what’s happening around us, [we should] not always be on our phones," are what some Bellevue residents Franz and Sona told FOX 13 in response to these recent crimes.
Residents are asked to call police if they see anything suspicious. Additionally, they tell people to put their lives before their possessions. "Follow the demands of the suspect, and immediately call 911 when it is safe to do so," read a statement from the department, in part.
