Police say all 3 drivers in fatal, multiple collision should be charged

EVERETT -- The Everett Police Department said Thursday it will ask that all three drivers in a multiple collision that resulted in the death of a 7-year-old boy be charged with crimes; two of them for vehicular homicide.

The collisions happened on Oct. 30, 2012, in the 7800 block of Evergreen Way.

Police said the drivers of two BMW cars who stopped at a red light at 75th Street SE decided to race. They did not know each other. They sped off, reaching speeds of up to 60 mph, police said, when the two cars collided, sending one of the BMWs spinning into the northbound lanes, where it was struck by a van.

A 7-year-old boy who was passenger in the BMW that spun into the northbound lanes was killed.

The drivers of the two BMWs -- a 31-year-old man from Everett, and the father of the boy, and a 28-year-old man from Clinton -- were referred to the Snohomish County prosecutor's office for vehicular homicide charges.

The driver of the northbound van -- a 76-year-old Marysville woman -- was being referred for DUI.

The prosecutors' office will decide whether to file charges.
