Neighbors were stunned to hear a barking dog -- seemingly from under the sidewalk.

Repair workers in Russia had paved over a stray dog while fixing a collapsed sidewalk, CNN reports.

After two days of hearing the dog's cries for help, a couple who live inside a nearby building decided to dig down to the dog's den themselves.

After removing some bricks and excavating some dirt, Belka was gently lifted out of the hole.

The dog was rescued, but she lost her litter of puppies.

Donations paid for Belka's food and medical care. She will soon be adopted to a new home.
