Report: Man accused of waterboarding 5-year-old for ripping backpack

FLINT, Mi. -- A Flint man is accused of setting up a waterboarding operation to punish a 5-year-old boy for allegedly ripping his backpack.

According to Minbcnews.com, 30-year-old Michael Porter is charged with unlawful imprisonment, second degree child abuse, second degree child abuse in the presence of another child and assault.

Police say Porter's girlfriend's 5-year-old son came home from school with a ripped backpack. Upset, Porter allegedly tied up the boy with belts and covered the boy's mouth with underwear, Minbcnews.com reports. The man then leaned the boy back over a footstool and poured water down the boy's face, simulating drowning.

This punishment is known as waterboarding and is considered a form of torture.

Two children, including the 5-year-old boy, were removed from Porter's home after the alleged abuse was reported. Porter is being held on $400,000 bail, Minbcnews.com reports.
