School supply giveaway for families in need
OLYMPIA -- The Little Red Schoolhouse Project is helping families in the need with children enrolled in Thurston County schools.
The nonprofit is putting on its annual school supply giveaway Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Capital High School in Olympia. Among the items being handed out: backpacks, three-ring binders, and other school supplies, as well as clothing. Coats, vests, socks and underwear will all be available for kids.
According to the organization, Olympia School District officials conducted a survey last year and found those items were the most needed. Proof of financial need is not required. Last year, the giveaway helped 3,133 Thurston County school kids.
