Seahawks must forfeit fifth-round draft pick, pay fines for OTA violation

SEATTLE – The Seattle Seahawks were punished Monday for “excessive on-field physical contact” during organized team activities earlier this summer, the NFL announced.

The Seahawks will forfeit a fifth-round draft pick next year, and also must pay a $400,000 fine, according to a report from the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Coach Pete Carroll also will have to pay a $200,000 fine, and the Seahawks will lose their first week of OTAs next season - a total of three days.

Rapoport reported that the punishment stems from a review of the team’s June 6 practice video, and it was determined the team violated the league’s “no-live-contact” rule.

The team was also punished for violating the same rule in 2012 and 2014. The Seahawks were fined $300,000 and lost some practice time for the 2014 incident, and Carroll and the team were fined in 2012 and lost two OTA sessions.
