Sheriff: Shoplifting suspect ran across I-5, causing multiple crashes
LYNNWOOD, Wash. -- Police arrested a man Wednesday morning after he allegedly stole from WalMart, got into a scuffle with security guards, ran across Interstate 5 and caused multiple crashes.
Around 9:30 a.m., store security at the Walmart on 164th Street SW in Lynnwood approached the man for allegedly stealing some goods, Snohomish County sheriff's deputies said. The man got into a "physical confrontation" with security officers, deputies said, before fleeing on foot.
The man allegedly jumped on an I-5 on ramp and ran across both northbound and southbound lanes of I-5, causing several non-serious collisions, deputies said. As deputies were called to the scene, an off-duty police officer in the area took the suspect into custody once her crossed the freeway.
A sheriff's deputy suffered minor injuries in the incident. No other information was immediatly available.
