Snoqualmie Valley teachers could strike

With just hours before the new school year, teachers in Snoqualmie Valley have not agreed to terms on a new contract with the district.

The Snoqualmie Valley Education Association will meet Tuesday afternoon to decide if they will be in the classroom on Wednesday for the start of school. A strike is a possibility.

Educators refuse to agree on a new contract with the district because of two major sticking points.

According to a spokesperson, the district proposal increases elementary school class sizes. Educators are also arguing over payments for extra work outside of the classroom.

Two other western Washington districts, Seattle and South Kitsap, have tentative agreements and will vote on those contracts this week.
