Suspect dies after police shooting in Shoreline
SHORELINE, Wash. - One person is dead after a police shooting in Shoreline, according to the King County Sheriff's Office.
Sgt. Ryan Abbott said it happened Thursday morning in the 500 block of 175th Street in Shoreline near Shorewood High School.
Abbott said police responded about 6 a.m. to reports of a stabbing. Shoreline Police arrived and spoke with a 62-year-old man who had been stabbed twice. The victim told police he was out on a walk with his dog and noticed a man following him.
As the victim turned to walk up his driveway, the suspect stabbed him once in the back and once in the front. He also stabbed the dog before running away, the victim said. The victim and his dog are both in stable condition.
A few minutes later, about 6:20 a.m., a second 911 caller reported that a man with the same description as the first stabbing suspect had tried to stab him but he was able to fight him off.
Detectives with the sheriff's office found the suspect a few minutes later near South 175th Street and Linden Avenue North. He was still armed with a knife. Detectives said they shot the suspect after an altercation. They tried CPR and other measures, but the man died at the scene.
Seattle Police Department’s FIT (Force Investigation Team) is conducting the investigation.
Both King County Sheriff’s Office detectives have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard for police shootings.
Witnesses told Q13 it happened in the parking lot of Linden Highlands Apartments. They said a man was running around with a knife when officers arrived and told him to drop the weapon. They opened fire shortly after.
Shoreline Fire reported a 50-year-old man was stabbed in the area around 6 a.m. The stabbing victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in stable condition. It's not confirmed that the man shot by deputies is the stabbing suspect, but Shoreline Fire said the suspect in the stabbing is not at large.
This is a developing story.
