SEATTLE - A teen was taken to the hospital Monday afternoon after a tree limb fell on her in Seattle's University District.
Crews initially responded to reports of a tree falling onto a car with a person trapped inside near Northeast 45th Street and 19th Avenue Northwest at about 12:30 p.m.
When crews arrived, firefighters said that a large tree limb fell onto a 17-year-old girl and no car was involved.
After removing the tree limb, the teen was taken to the hospital for further medical care.
The Seattle Fire Department is working with Seattle Parks to help remove the debris from the road.
In a statement, Seattle Department of Transportation said:
"Our thoughts are with the injured young woman. Her health and well-being is important to us, and we all hope that she has a quick recovery.
This tree was on private property, it was not a "street tree" planted on public land. Although it is unclear as to what caused the limb to break off, SDOT will be reaching out to the owner of the tree to confirm they are aware of the tree's condition and their maintenance responsibilities. Because the tree limb fell on the public right-of-way, our crews have been working hard to clear the area and restore mobility and accessibility. "
