Thieves targeting cars at local parks

PUYALLUP -- The sun is out and so are car prowlers. Police are on the offensive patrolling parks all across metro Seattle.

Cops are warning people to be on the lookout for crooks trying to make a quick get-away with your stuff.

In the past two weeks, Puyallup police said thieves smashed and grabbed valuables out of cars at three city parks.

Crooks hit Bradley Lake Park and Wildwood Park and someone even snagged a laptop computer at DeCoursey Park.

Erin McWhirt doesn’t even bring valuables to the park – she can read the signs.

“I keep it locked and I don’t keep a bunch of stuff out in the open in my car,” said McWhirt.

Puyallup isn’t alone – crooks got an early start back in April ripping people off while they enjoyed the hiking trails in Snohomish County.

The county even started talking with a security company hoping to install surveillance cameras at parking lots.

Cops said you shouldn’t leave your windows rolled down, put away the holster for your iPhone, and take your purse with you.
