Tunnel advisory committee talking tolling prices
SEATTLE -- Just how much would you pay to use the new waterfront tunnel that's replacing the Alaskan Way Viaduct?
The Viaduct Replacement Advisory Committee is proposing toll fees of $1.25 during peak hours, and $1 on non-peak hours weekdays and weekends.
The committee discussed this latest scenario in a meeting Wednesday in Seattle.
The committee has been studying various proposals, to come up with a plan to minimize traffic diversion and raise revenue.
"We've been running scenarios, trying to get closer and closer to that sweet spot of increasing our revenues to the point to cover all of the costs of operating, maintaining, and paying for the capital cost of the tunnel while not causing gridlock on our city streets," said the committee's Maud Daudon.
The committee does not ultimately determine what the toll fees will be; that's up to the Washington State Transportation Commission.
