Uber planning price surge for New Year's Eve
SEATTLE -- As people make their final New Year's Eve celebration plans, Uber said anyone using its service to get around should be prepared to pay more.
According to a blog posted on the Uber website, the company said price surges would go into effect during certain times of the night for the holiday. Before 8 p.m., prices would be at their normal rate, but they would start going up afterward.
The most expensive time of the night was expected to be 12:15 a.m., as people start heading home after ringing in the new year. Uber said prices would quickly drop and return back to normal around 3 a.m.
As the website CNET reported, Uber planned to let riders know when price surging was in effect. Customers will be required to confirm their understanding of the pricing policy once the surge reaches twice as much as the normal price or higher.
Uber riders can use the company's app to get an estimate on their fare, and they can also split fares with friends.
