Ultralight plane crashes into trucks after taking off from Chehalis airport; pilot dead

CHEHALIS -- An ultralight plane crashed into two trucks in a parking lot and burst into flames shortly after taking off from the Chehalis-Centralia Airport Tuesday night, killing the only person aboard, the Chehalis Police Department said.

The plane crashed into two trucks at the Chehalis Collision Center on Maryland Avenue.

The plane was taking off from the airport, but banked sharply and crashed just across Interstate 5 shortly after takeoff, witnesses told The Chronicle newspaper.

Cause of the crash is under investigation.
