Voters approve West Pierce Fire and Rescue levy

TACOMA -- The West Pierce Fire and Rescue finally got enough votes Thursday for its excess levy to pass, according to the Tacoma News Tribune.

The Pierce County Auditor’s Office said it passed with 68 percent of the vote.

The levy will cost property owners about $1.60 per $1,000 of assessed value, and is expected to bring in an estimated $11 million both in 2014 and 2015.

It will help fund more than 35 percent of the Lakewood-based district’s operations.
