Nearly 10K without power near Leavenworth due to flooding

The City of Leavenworth is in the dark, as flooding from the Wenatchee River has knocked out power for close to 10,000 people.

A massive atmospheric river has drenched western Washington, flooding rivers and knocking out power to thousands of homes across the region.

As of 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, Puget Sound Energy is reporting around 2,000 customers without power. Most of the outages are in communities along the White, Skykomish and Skagit rivers, which are currently in major flood stage.

The majority of the outages occurred further east in Chelan County, which got battered by strong winds Thursday morning. Currently, over 7,000 customers are without power, with the city of Leavenworth completely in the dark.

Chelan County PUD customers are asked to prepare for outages to last over 24 hours, and to stay away from downed power lines.

Customers are urged to have a plan if their power is knocked out, and should monitor conditions online.
