Wild police pursuit of stolen car reaches speeds of 105 mph
SEATTLE -- A stolen car, speeds exceeding 100 mph, spike strips and canines all came together Friday morning as Washington State Patrol Troopers pursued a man in a stolen car. The man was eventually arrested in Everett.
Trooper Mark Francis said that another trooper attempted to pull over a black Lexus sedan on Interstate 5 near Smokey Point just before midnight. The trooper noticed the car weaving through traffic and the car had been reported as stolen. Suddenly, the car sped off southbound and exited the freeway at the Everett Mall.
Troopers pursued the car on surface streets through Everett and back onto I-5 in Marysville, Francis said. The pursuit continued to the Highway 529 interchange where the stolen car crashed through some construction barrels. Troopers deployed spike strips to try and stop the car, but the driver kept going. Finally, the driver stopped near 9th and Maple Streets in Everett and the driver and up to two passengers ran off.
Francis said that a canine patrol unit helped catch one person.
