Winter shelter beds to stay open until March 2014
SEATTLE – Emergency winter shelters that were scheduled to close on June 15 will remain open. Between the two participating locations, that’s 115 beds available to men and women needing overnight shelter. The emergency shelters will open every night through September 30. Then starting on October 1, the regularly-scheduled winter shelters go into effect through March 31, 2014.
Two shelters are participating in the extension. The first is at Seattle City Hall, located on Fourth Avenue between James and Cherry streets. Doors open at 7 p.m. and can hold up to 75 men and women. Angeline’s Center for Homeless women is located at 2030 Third Avenue. Doors open at 6 p.m. Up to 40 women can stay their every night.
“I am pleased that we will be able to offer shelter for people who need a safe, clean place to stay for the night,” Mayor Mike McGinn said. “We remain committed to finding long-term solutions to help people find the housing and services they need to end the cycle of homelessness.”
