Woman injured in drive-by undergoes surgery
SEATTLE -- A 20-year-old woman is recovering at Harborview Medical Center after being shot at Kerry Park last night in an apparent drive-by, the Seattle Police Department said.
A "frantic" woman approached police officers late Thursday night in the 200 block of West Highland Drive and told them that her female friend was shot in the chest. She was driven by car to Harborview Medical Center.
The victim underwent emergency surgery, and is in stable condition, police said.
Officers interviewed several witnesses at the scene and learned that the victim was standing outside a stopped Ford Focus talking to the car's occupants when gunfire erupted from a passing Chrysler 300. Officers believe that there may have been a connection between the shooter and the occupants of the Ford Focus.
Police found the suspect vehicle unoccupied near the scene and took it into evidence. Police are investigating the incident, and encourage anyone with information to call Seattle police 206-625-5011.
