Worker killed by construction vehicle near Bellingham, WA
WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. - An investigation is underway after a construction worker was killed in a rural area of Whatcom County Tuesday morning.
What we know:
According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), the incident occurred inside a construction zone along East Smith Road near Bellingham at around 9:09 a.m.
When troopers arrived, they found 42-year-old Brandon Gipson of Ferndale, a construction worker, dead at the scene.
Investigators say the worker was killed by a construction vehicle within the zone. The driver of the vehicle was backing down the right shoulder of Smith Road heading eastbound, while the worker was walking on the same shoulder heading westbound when the two collided.
WSP investigators determined that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash. The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Troopers have not released details about the type of construction vehicle involved in the incident.
