Worker rescued from sand-filled rail car in Pierce County

FREDRICKSON, Wash. (AP) — A trapped worker has been rescued from a rail car full of sand in Fredrickson in Pierce County.

The News Tribune reports the man was buried up to his chest in the rail car.

Firefighters responded around 4:30 p.m. and used suction trucks to remove about 80 tons of sand from the car.



Central Pierce Fire and Rescue says it was not immediately known what company the man works for and how he became trapped.

He was taken to a hospital in stable condition after they got him out about 6 p.m.
