WSP: Senior center van driver arrested for DUI after passengers demanded off bus

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. -- Troopers arrested a senior center van driver on suspicion of DUI Wednesday morning.

According to Washington State Patrol Trooper Mark Francis, 11 passengers were on the bus heading to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. The driver was allegedly running stop signs, hitting the curb and driving over roundabouts.



Troopers say seniors were shouting for the driver to stop the bus, but he would not. Some of the passengers spotted a WSP trooper and shouted again for the driver to stop. Officials say while traveling at 55 mph the driver slammed on the brakes, nearly hitting the jersey barrier shown in the photo.

Passengers then started running off the bus saying he was driving dangerously.

Troopers arrested the 45-year-old driver on suspicion of DUI and booked him into the King County Jail.
