Zoo: Come and pet our stingrays
TACOMA – A new exhibit opens Saturday at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. Stingray Cove will give visitors the opportunity to reach into the water and touch five species of dinner plate sized stingrays.
Neil Allen, the Curator of Aquatic Animals, said the stingrays are very docile creatures.
“They’re not very aggressive,” Allen said. “We clip their barbs so they’re completely harmless.”
Stingray Cove is part of the zoo’s South Pacific Aquarium. The 300,000-gallon ecosystem boasts the Outer Reef, Blue Hole and Lagoon habitats.
