Everybody's spelled Hauschka's name wrong since 'a little mix-up in college'

SEATTLE – From here on out, Steve Hauschka it is.

After years of double-checking the spelling of Seahawks’ kicker Steven Hauschka’s last name before committing it to print, Q13 News learned Wednesday that it’s actually his first name everybody should’ve been concerned with.

Hauschka helped out with the weekly “Why Not Me Pets” segment this week, and Q13 News photographer Fernando Ochoa -- doing his due diligence -- checked the spelling of Hauschka’s name.

S-t-e-p-h-e-n.

Not S-t-e-v-e-n, which is how the Seahawks, the media, and the rest of the world have been spelling it.

“There was a little mix-up in college,” Hauschka said.

On top of that, Hauschka doesn’t prefer Stephen, or even Steven.

“Uh … I just like to go by Steve,” he said.

As it turns out, the evidence was right in front us, albeit from the one source nobody is supposed to trust: Hauschka’s Wikipedia page calls him Stephen Theodore "Steven" Hauschka.
