Mariners trade pitcher Fernando Rodney to Chicago Cubs for 'cash considerations'

SEATTLE -- The Seattle Mariners traded right-handed pitcher Fernando Rodney to the Chicago Cubs in return for cash considerations, Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik announced Thursday.

Rodney had been designated for assignment by Seattle on Sunday, August 23.

Rodney, 38, went 5-5 with a 5.68 ERA in 54 relief appearances this season, including 16-for-22 in save opportunities.

Rodney was an All-Star with Seattle in 2014, setting a single-season club record with 48 saves.
