NFL star has finger amputated as result of fireworks accident on July 4
NEW YORK -- New York Giants star defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul had his right index finger amputated after a fireworks accident on July 4, ESPN and NFL.com reported Wednesday.
ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported the news. It was later confirmed by NFL.com's Ian Rapoport and The New York Times.
Earlier Wednesday, it was reported that two Giants officials who traveled to Florida to see Pierre-Paul ended up leaving without seeing him. It was unclear why until reports of his surgery were leaked.
After Pierre-Paul's Fourth of July fireworks accident, the Giants revoked their $60 million long-term contract offer to him -- but it was an offer he had not accepted anyway. The Giants have also placed the franchise tag on Pierre-Paul for the 2015 season. He has not signed the franchise tender yet.
It is unclear how the loss of a finger will affect Pierre-Paul's play.
