The Seattle Seahawks have scheduled a second interview for Friday with New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak for their open offensive coordinator position, per Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
Kubiak is the first of the four known candidates for the job to have a second interview with the team. Detroit Lions offensive line coach Hank Fraley, Chicago Bears interim head coach Thomas Brown, and Minnesota Vikings assistant coach Grant Udinski are the other three candidates reported to have had interviews with the Seahawks.
In his reporting of the interview, Garafolo added: "Feeling like Klint Kubiak is in the driver’s seat."
Dig deeper:
Kubiak, 37, is the son of former Denver Broncos and Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak. Klint spent this season as the offensive coordinator of the New Orleans Saints, though his position is in question as head coach Dennis Allen was fired during the season.
Kubiak has been a coach in the NFL since the 2013 season except for one year at the University of Kansas in 2015. He was an offensive quality control coach with the Minnesota Vikings in 2013-14, and joined his dad with the Broncos in 2016. Though his dad retired after the 2016 season, Kubiak remained with the team two more seasons.
Kubiak returned to the Vikings as a quarterbacks coach for two seasons and then spent one year as offensive coordinator in 2021. Kubiak then returned to Denver for one season as passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2022, and then one year as passing game coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers in 2023 before joining the Saints.
With the season over for the Bears and Vikings, the Seahawks can schedule a second interview with Brown or Udinski as well. However, they will have to wait to speak again to Fraley as the Lions remain in the playoffs. If the Lions keep advancing to the Super Bowl, the Seahawks are unable to speak with Fraley again until after the conference championship games.
Brown is the only known minority candidate to interview with Seattle so far. The Rooney Rule in the NFL requires at least two interviews with minority or female candidates for coordinator positions.
Leslie Frazier to interview with Dallas Cowboys.
Seattle Seahawks assistant head coach Leslie Frazier will interview with the Dallas Cowboys for their head coaching job on Monday, per Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network.
Frazier, 65, just completed his first season with the Seahawks. He formerly spent three years as head coach of the Minnesota Vikings from 2011-13 after being named interim head coach in 2010. He's also been defensive coordinator of the Vikings (2007), Cincinnati Bengals (2003-04), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2014-15), and Buffalo Bills (2017-22).
