The fourth and final former Minneapolis police officer charged for his role in George Floyd's murder is set to learn his fate on Monday.

Former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin will not get a new trial for murdering George Floyd, the Minnesota Court of Appeals has ruled. 

An attorney for Derek Chauvin is planning to ask an appeals court to throw out the former Minneapolis police officer’s convictions in the murder of George Floyd, arguing that numerous legal and procedural errors deprived him of a fair trial.

The final two former Minneapolis police officers who violated George Floyd's civil rights were sentenced Wednesday in federal court.

Federal prosecutors are asking a judge to give former Minneapolis Officer Derek Chauvin a 25-year sentence for violating the rights of George Floyd, as well as the rights of a 14-year-old Black boy who was restrained in an unrelated case. 

The trial for the three ex-Minneapolis police officers charged in the death of George Floyd will be delayed until March 2022, allowing the federal case against the officers to take priority.

Hennepin County Judge Peter Cahill says he will consider an aggravated durational departure from the sentencing guidelines for Derek Chauvin.
