Wednesday marks the 42-year anniversary of Mt. St. Helens' eruption in Washington. The blast on May 18, 1980, is the worst volcanic eruption in U.S. history, killing 57 people and spewing 520 million tons of ash across the country.

Crews are working to restore power to thousands of customers throughout Western Washington on Wednesday.

Heavy rain and strong winds ramped up this morning across Western Washington causing power outages in some north Puget Sound areas.

Wind Advisories are in effect for a large portion of western Washington, including the Seattle and greater Puget Sound region, for gusts as high as 40 to 45 mph Wednesday morning into the afternoon.

A weak ridge of high pressure over the Pacific Northwest will keep Western Washington dry Tuesday, but rain returns late tonight.
