1 killed, 1 arrested in suspected DUI crash in Tacoma
TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Police Department says they arrested a man after he allegedly caused a fatal crash while overtaking another vehicle, and possibly drove under the influence.
The crash happened on South Orchard Street near South 48th Street, west of the Tacoma Mall. Tacoma Police initially posted about the incident at 1:56 p.m.
It's believed that the causing driver attempted to overtake another vehicle going northbound on Orchard Street, but ended up crashing into another vehicle traveling southbound.
Police say the causing driver was speeding, and the crash killed the driver of the southbound vehicle.
The crash suspect was possibly under the influence, as police said intoxicants and speed appear to be factors.
The suspect is now in custody, though it's unknown what charges he's facing.
Roads in the area are closed off as police investigate. The public should avoid the area.
