Everett Mayor Cassie Franklin issued a statement following the stabbing, stating, in part:
"I am absolutely heartbroken about the 13-year-old who was attacked this morning. As a mom who walked her daughter to school along the exact same route every day, I’m horrified by this violent act. Please keep this child and his loved ones in your thoughts as his injuries are treated. This was traumatic and recovering will take time.
"I want to stress to our community that the City of Everett takes criminal incidents like this very seriously. Everett Police have deployed significant resources towards finding the person of interest - scouring the area with numerous patrol officers, a K9 unit and our drone. We are actively pursuing tips and following every lead shared by the community to find the person responsible and get justice for this child. In the meantime, our police will have an increased presence near North Middle and at all our schools throughout the city for at least the next several days.
"Public safety is our City’s top priority. Even in these extraordinary times, I’ve continued to prioritize fully funding our first responders and the other teams that are essential to public safety and seek innovative ways to enhance our ability to provide public safety to our community. This includes implementing new technology like the Flock Safety System, incorporating dedicated emphasis patrols to address highly impacted areas and aggressively recruiting the best candidates to join our police department."
