15 percent of youth out of school, out of work
SEATTLE -- A shocking new study says that 6 million young people across the country are not working or in school.
That's about 15 percent of all people ages 16 to 24, according to The Opportunity Nation Coalition.
Unemployed, uneducated youth has a direct correlation to family poverty, according to the Coalition. According to the study, 49 states have seen an increase in families living in poverty, and families in 45 states watched their median incomes fall last year.
This foreshadows the problems teens will have as adults, researchers say.
But, It's not all bad. Topping the list of most supportive states for youth are Vermont, Minnesota and North Dakota.
States where youth struggle the most include Nevada, Mississippi and New Mexico.
