An unlikely blue ribbon queen -- 99-year-old has thousands of 'em
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- With autumn comes fair season and this year there will be one thing missing from the Dixie Classic Fair -- homemade treat from 99-year-old Katie Gilbert.
Gilbert has been a cornerstone of the fair, entering her homemade preserves and candy for the past 70 years.
According to WGHP, Gilbert hasn’t just entered the competition, she’s taken home blue ribbons every year -- thousands of blue ribbons.
“I’ve got boxes full of blue ribbons,” Gilbert said, but said she's never counted them to know exactly how many she's actually won.
While she isn’t entering anything this year, she says she’ll be back again next year.
What keeps her coming back? Winning prizes, of course.
