Family escapes house fire in Everett
EVERETT - Seven people has to scramble to safety when fire broke out in an Everett home Saturday morning. Assistant Fire Marshal Eric Hicks said that the fire broke out just after midnight and fire crews responded to the home in the 2200 block of Rainier Avenue. Initial reports were that there were people trapped in the home, but Hicks said that residents got out safely on their own, before fire crews arrived.
Some people sleeping in the home's basement woke up to the smell of smoke, Hicks said. People sleeping on the second floor had to escape out of a second-story window. Two people were transported to Harborview Medical Center, one with serious burns, and the other with minor burns. Five other people drove themselves to Providence Medical Center. Hicks said that one firefighter suffered a broken ankle.
The fire was extinguised just after 4 a.m. The cause and the damage estimate have not been determined, Hicks said.
