Local fans celebrate legacy of David Lynch in North Bend, WA
NORTH BEND, Wash. - After the death of film and television director David Lynch on Thursday, fans of the auteur are flocking to local locations of his 90s show Twin Peaks.
On Thursday, David Lynch, the director of Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart, Mulholland Drive, Eraserhead, and Twin Peaks died at the age of 78.
Local perspective:
Picturesque Snoqualmie Falls was featured in the opening credits of the 90s television show. The Salish Lodge was used as the stand-in for the Great Northern Hotel throughout the series.
"Twin Peaks is just really, really special. Everything about it," said Sue Heydon.
Heydon went to the falls to honor the life of Lynch. Her next stop on her Lynch tour was Twede’s Café in North Bend. The business was the location of the fictional Double R Diner in the series.
"There’s not many places that you can go to really just be able to experience the world that he created, and I feel like this is one of the places you can come," said Rachel Bennett, the owner of the diner and a Lynch fan.
The go-to order for any Twin Peaks fan at the diner is a slice of cherry pie and a cup of coffee. Bennett said they stocked up on both for the weekend.
The backstory:
Joy Nash was eating at the diner for the first time ever on Friday.
While it is her first experience with the restaurant, it is not her first time in the world of Twin Peaks.
"I don’t remember what he said to me. It was probably, ‘Hi, I’m David. Hi, I’m joy,’" she said.
Nash appeared in the 2017 third season of Twin Peaks, episode 8, as Señorita Dido. She worked directly with Lynch for two days on set.
"That changed everything for me. It like, gave me this confidence that I hadn’t had before, and I think that that moment made me capable of doing the things I have done since," said Nash.
