Frank Straub out as Spokane Police Chief
SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Spokane's police chief has resigned after nearly three years on the job.
The Spokesman-Review reports that Spokane Mayor David Condon asked for Police Chief Frank Straub's resignation amid complaints about his leadership style.
Condon had recruited him to the job to reform the department. Straub has been criticized since then over a reorganization and decision to transfer two women out of the department to other city jobs.
He was previously director of public safety for the city of Indianapolis.
Straub said in a news release he is proud of the work that has been done and rather than engage in a public discussion that distracts from making Spokane safer, he is resigning.
Straub will work for the city until Jan. 1 in the city attorney's office on criminal justice initiatives.
