Lost and found: SPD launches 'Get Your Bike Back' Twitter feed
SEATTLE -- There's a new Twitter feed that could help you locate that lost or stolen bike -- @Getyourbikeback.
Launched by the Seattle Police Department, @Getyourbikeback includes about 500 "lost" bikes in the department's Evidence Warehouse. The bikes recovered by officers.
The department said that a number of the bikes are likely stolen, but owners don't always call to make a report because they don't have the bike's serial number.
But that's no problem to reclaim your wheels, police said. While having the bike's serial number can expedite recovery of stolen property, evidence such as a purchase receipt or even a photo of you on your wheels is sufficient proof of ownership.
Police will be tweeting general descriptions of recently found bikes starting Monday and the tweets will continue as more bikes come into police property.
If you reported your bike stolen, the easiest way to get it back is to provide your case number and the bike's serial number. To make your claim, email FindMyBike@Seattle.gov and include your contact information.
Police request that you do not email about bikes that have not been tweeted about on @GetYourBikeBack.
