Men dressed as workers ransack a remodeled Federal Way home
FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- Two men dressed as workers ransacked a vacant house on Monday. Thieves stole thousands of dollars’ worth of brand new interior items and appliances.
“Look, here these were beautiful French doors!” Walter Fielder said Thursday while walking through his daughter’s home.
Fielder and his daughter Renee put her house up for sale in July and spent the last couple of months fixing it up to rent.
“I took out my retirement, every dime I had, to put in the house,” homeowner Renee Betzendorfer said Thursday.
About $30,000 later, Renee’s house was ready to sell-- until Monday.
“My beautiful home they pretty much destroyed,” Betzendorfer added.
At about noon on Monday, neighbors saw a white and green truck pull up – and two guys dressed at workers started taking everything out. Brand new appliances, from the fridge to copper wiring, were gone in minutes.
“It's been pretty tough. I'm a single mom, three kids, and it’s hard to make ends... Sorry I get emotional,” Renee said.
The truck didn’t have license plates and some neighbors didn’t buy the act and snapped pics. Eventually neighbors called police. Federal Way Police say the thieves broke through a window.
“It's just a violation of everyone of this neighborhood,” neighbor JoAnn Andro said. “Every single neighbor needs to be more vigilant and if you see something, say something.”
Neighbors say they are serious about getting to the bottom of this and are starting a neighborhood watch program.
